2003
Season Preview
The
2003 season has a lot of spots to fill with only 4 returners, three
of which were all Foothill Conference performers. Franny Guillen,
Valarie Lancaster, were both 2nd team all league selections along
with Kristin Merrill who was an honorable mention all-league selection.
The team goals this year are simple. First and mostly we need
to stay healthy. We will stick with the philosophy to take one game
at a time, focusing on the detail in order to achieve
success we must work hard, success does not come easy. Games
and championships are not always won by talent alone, you must have
the desire to win.
With six spots to fill coach Aguliar has to roll up his sleeves
and get to work. He will be counting on leadership from his four
All-Foothill conference returners to assist him in guiding the new
players. Kristin Merril will be our Ace in the pitching circle.
She is working very hard on her conditioning because she realizes
that she may pitch up to 35 games this season, stated Coach
Aguliar. Franny Guillen will hold down first base after switching
from being a catcher last season. Valarie Lancaster, fresh from
her starting position for the Lady Rams basketball team, will again
play second base. She brings alot of speed to our line up,
believes Aguliar.
New comer Samantha Vega from Apple Valley high will be the new catcher
this season. She brings plate awareness and natural catching fundamentals
to the team. Aguliar add, she hits the ball with alot of power.
Katie Faust Apple Valley HS will play centerfield and some third
base. Comments Aguliar, he has alot of speed and natural softball
abilities.
Gina Allen from Silverado will be the starting shortstop and will
have some pitching duties for the team this season. She brings speed
to the plate and also has great fundamentals in the middle infield.
Lupe Perez from Silverado will do some catching and also play some
outfield.
Season Preview
Kim Martinez from Hesperia High School will play left field and
some infield. Tammy Rockwell also from Hesperia High will be delegated
to play all out field positions in any game.
KaRynn Minton from Sultana High School will be asked to play three
different positions this season, third base, catcher, and shortstop.
She is a super athlete and is capable of holding down each of these
positions.
Lorrane Lozano from Serrano High will play second base and some
out field. Krystal Rothwell from Victor Valley will play in the
outfield this season.
Coach Aguliar has his hand full juggling his lineup and keeping
this team healthy. As stated earlier if he is able to achieve both
goals it should be a very successful season for the Rams.
Head Coach
In the Fall of 1999 Rudy Aguliar ascended to the position of head
soft ball coach at Victor Valley College after two years as the
Rams assistant coach. He brings over a dozen years of softball and
baseball experience to the Rams program.
A native of Newbury Park Coach Aguilar was a three time all-league
and two time all CIF selection at Newbury Park High School. He joined
the VVC softball coaching staff in 1998 and helped guide the Rams
to consecutive titles in 1998-1999. In 2000 he guided VVC to a 25-19
record. In 2002 Coach Aguilar rallied the Lady Rams in the second
half of the Foothill Conference and a second round game against
the number one team in Southern California which the Rams lost in
a closely contested match.
At Victor Valley College we emphasize the student part of
student athlete. We teach our team that commitment plus sacrifice
equals success. As a guide we use the Definite Dozen system as a
guide to school and softball.
