Season Preview

Coach Killion’s expectations are clear:
  •  With our deeper team I expect to be top three in Foothill Conference.
  •  Based on non-Conference play, anticipate quality wins in Conference.
  •  Eliminate VVC’s two year winless streak.
  •  Dominate in Doubles with new athletes because it seems to be their forte’.

Anna Olin joins the VVC Women’s Tennis team from Granite Hills High School and will be the number one player on the team this year. During her prep career at Granite Hills she played number one singles for their conference Championship team. Coach Killion expects Anna to move onto a four year school. “ She is extremely competitive in singles play and her strong suits are her serve and her forehand.”

Second year player Irina Solovey returns to be the number two player on the VVC Women’s Tennis team this season. She was last seasons MVP. “She has found her power game by using her forehand and exacting volleys” Her strong suit is her singles play.

Joining the VVC Women’s Tennis team from UCLA is Bibiana Gonzalez. “She will be a force to be reckoned with in doubles. She brings a powerful serve and excellent net play to the court. Her sense of humor and positive attitude has rubbed of on the team and created a tight knit camaraderie.’

“The Ace” Mellisa Lanceta is a freshman at VVC hailing from Apple Valley High School. “Her power serve is undeniable. During her prep career she has shown her strengths in doubles but has shown great potential in her abilities to play singles”

Abigail Mendoza joins VVC Women’s Tennis team from Sultana High School. “She has been injured in the pre-season but has shown commitment by coming to practice which has inspired her teammates. Abby was recognized as an All-League Athlete in the High Desert in 2001. I expect her to continue her winning doubles play for VVC.”

Blanca Gomez brings a never quit attitude to the VVC Women’s Tennis team. “ She is an inspiration. Her type “A” personality pushes this novice to perfection. You can find her practicing constantly even during down time and in between her matches. Her strong suit is her aggressive volleying ability and her never quit attitude.”

Another returnee to the VVC Women’s Tennis team is May Mulville. “ Her unique shots are difficult for her opponents to read. “ She is the epitome of a fighter. Her strong suit is her winning at all cost attitude.”

“Don’t let her exterior fool you, although she looks like a Barbie in her matching attire. Leslie is as aggressive as they come. She is new to competition; however she is a quick study. She brings a positive attitude, grace, and an effervescent smile which captivates her opponents, peers, and audience.”

Quality returnees and an influx of talent from local high schools has Coach Killion excited about this seasons outlook.
