Mr. Sweet is one of Victor Valley College Automotive Technology Departments part time Instructors. John Sweet has over forty years experience in the automotive trade, he has been a technician, shop manager and business owner. He was owner/operator of the sixth largest Unocal Pro-Tech full serve service station in the western Unocal division of the United States. The station had yearly sales that exceeded three million dollars, and he employed twenty-five technicians. He understands from both sides of industry the training and qualifications needed for a student to successfully enter and succeed in the automotive repair trade. John Sweet served as the Automotive Department Chair for twenty two years and retired from his full time duties and now teaches part time and works with the Apple Valley sheriff’s office as a volunteer.
John Sweet attended the Automotive Institute and graduated from the Unocal Pro-Tech program as a Master Technician. John is a recertified ASE Master Automotive Technician (A-1 thru A-8, he also holds ASE Certifications in Advanced Engine Performance (L-1), General Service Technician (G-1. He has held ASE Certifications in Advanced Diesel Engine Performance (L-2) Alternative Fuels (F-1), Truck Repair (T-1, T-2, T-6), Collision Repair (B-5), Automotive Parts Specialist (P-1), Engine Machining (M-1), Under Car Specialist, Exhaust Systems (X-1), Truck Equipment (E-2), Service Consultant (C-1), School Bus Repair (S-6), and Light duty Diesel Repair (A-9). John has held a Smog Inspection and Repair license since 1964 and is licensed by California as a Basic and Enhanced Area Smog Instructor and is certified to instruct all the California Alternative Classes as well as all levels of smog citations.
John Sweet enjoys outdoor activities such as driving his jeep and riding his dirt bike off road, camping, and fishing. He enjoys cooking and is continually trying to grow tomatoes in the high desert. John also is interested in continuing to update the automotive classes he teaches to provide his students with the latest skills so they will be welcomed into the quality auto repair shops of the high desert.
