This is a comprehensive 84 hour class designed to give the student technical and manipulative knowledge of the basic skills needed for entry into a paid-call or volunteer firefighting organization. This class is a good way for individuals that have an interest in the fire service to learn whether the job of a firefighter is one that they would look to pursue, and may be a mandatory requirement for some departments prior to entry into a Paid Call Firefighter position
The class is conducted on Fridays from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for 4 consecutive weeks.
The student will receive instruction in the following areas:
- Fire Ground Safety
- Fire Behavior
- Fire Service Ladders
- Hose Evolutions
- Breathing Apparatus
- Ropes and Knots
- Auto Extrication
- Building Construction
- Ventilation Techniques
- Structural Firefighting
- Vehicle Firefighting
- Salvage and Overhaul
- Search and Rescue
- Forcible Entry
Purchase of both an Academy T Shirt and Uniform Pants are required along with the IFSTA 5th Ed. Essentials of Fire Fighting and Fire Department Operations. Do not purchase items until after attending the Mandatory Orientation.
There is also an $100.00 materials fee for this course.
