Program Management

The team primarily responsible for grant strategy implementation is led by the architect of the SAM plan, Stephen Toner, with leadership support from the Dean of STEM, Hamid Eydgahi. Professor Toner currently serves as the faculty department chair for the math program at Victor Valley College. His participative leadership style has garnered SAM broad based support from math faculty whose input will continue to shape the refinement and implementation of the plan.

prog adminProfessor Stephen Toner taught math at the high school level for Apple Valley Unified School District from 1988 to 2002. He started teaching at VVC as an adjunct and became full-time in 2002.

Mr. Toner is an active member of AMATYC and is an AP Reader for AP Statistics exams each year. He is interested in anything technical. A member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, he enjoys digital photography, digital video editing and web site design.

In his spare time, Professor Toner likes to attend plays and musicals. He also loves to take cruises and travel.

 

Alma DeSantos, Grant Administrative Secretary I (Substitute)

Alma De Santos graduated from Victor Valley College in 2013 with an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts. She then transferred to Azusa Pacific University to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Business Organizational Leadership. Alma is currently attending Cal State University, San Bernardino working towards completion of a Master of Science in Psychology, with an emphasis in Counseling.

Alma's passion has always been in education. She has worked as a community liaison and academic advisor since 2007. Her goal is to guide students and parents on how to navigate a post-secondary education. She finds this work very rewarding and loves to see students succeed at their dreams.

Alma is a proud mother of four boys to whom she has devoted her life to. She loves to spend her free time with her boys and enjoy her cooking with them. She knows the true way to someone's heart is through food.  

 

Jessica Pace, Grant Outreach Coordinator 

photo - Jessica PaceJessica Pace graduated from Barstow Community College in 2014 with an Associate of Arts in Psychology. She then transferred to the University of Southern California to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Forensics and Criminality. Jessica’s passion has always been helping others. She works in the field of education in hopes of helping students reach their academic goals. Jessica is a proud mother of one daughter. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Jessica loves to bake and is always trying new recipes for her loved one

Johnathan Rangel

photo of Johnathan RangelJohnathan Rangel (22) is a 2nd semester Psychology major at VVC. He is transferring to UC Riverside in the Fall of 2019 for his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. His career goal is to become a surgeon. Johnathan's hobbies include working out at the gym, binge-watching shows on Netflix, playing the piano, and online gaming.

 

 

Everardo Amaral

photo of Everardo AmaralEverardo Amaral is a third-semester student at Victor Valley College. He is majoring in Computer Information Systems and wants to build a career in cyber security. When Everardo is not at work or in class, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends and building computers.

 

 

Thomas Steensland

photo of Thomas SteenslandThomas Steensland has been attending Victor Valley College since the summer of 2014. He has received an Associate of Science, Math and Science and is currently working towards an Associate of Science, Environmental Horticulture. Thomas hopes to transfer to the University of California at Davis in the Fall of 2019, into the Environmental Science and Management program. He aspires to be an Environmental Specialist, possibly with the United States Agency for International Development or the United Nations Environment Programmer.

 

Nick Castillo

photo of Nick CastilloNick Castillo is a third semester student at Victor Valley College. He is majoring in business and wants to open a small coffee shop in the future. In his free time, Nick enjoys reading, playing games, listening to music, and playing D & D.

 

 

 

Adolfo Nieblas

photo of Adolfo NieblasAdolfo Nieblas is a Computer Science and Mathematics major in his second year. He is planning to transfer out to a four year university with his Associate’s Degrees within the next year. He hopes to one day work as a programmer at a well, respected company and later on as a teacher.

 

 

Tyler Riebeling

photo of Tyler RiebelingTyler Riebeling is a second year college student at Victor Valley College. He is pursuing a degree in kinesiology and wants to become a physical therapist.  Tyler aspires to make his parents and those around him proud by using the tools they have provided him with to become successful and help others. Some of    Tyler’s hobbies include working out, playing sports, socializing with friends, and learning to play new instruments.

 

 

Course Coordinators

The SAM Grant Team also consists of Mathematics Department Faculty who serve on various positions to ensure the goals of the SAM Grant are being accomplished on a per-term basis. In addition to our Course Coordinators, each works with a team of Subject Level Contributors to support the overall goals of the grant!
