Citing MLA Style

Source: Gibaldi, Joseph. MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. (http://www.mla.org/store/CID24/PID159) 6th ed. New York: Modern Language Association, 2003.

The most common way to cite sources is to use a bibliography or "Works Cited" list at the end of your paper. The works cited list includes a citation for each of the sources you used to write your paper. The citations are formatted in a consistent style according to one of several standard citation formats. Two of the most common formats for undergraduate research papers are the MLA (Modern Language Association) and the APA (American Psychological Association) styles. Be sure to check with your instructors to see which one they prefer. Additional information regarding when to cite sources can be found under "Research Tools" > "Understanding Plagiarism."

The examples listed below were created by VVC librarians based on the 6th ed. of the MLA Handbook and are not official. If questions arise, please refer to copies of the handbooks located in the library stacks (LB 2369 G53 2003) and on the dictionary stands.
