Project Description: When construction is complete in 2008, the 20,563 square foot addition will supplement the existing theater facility with a new drama studio, rehearsal studio, expanded green room and scene shop. The addition will also showcase new make-up labs and dressing rooms for men and women, costume construction lab, lighting shop, and computerized design studio. In addition, four large labs with smaller break-out spaces will be provided for the facilitated instruction of Speech courses. Unique features to the Speech/Drama Addition include labs equipped with the latest in smart classroom technologies which will be acoustically designed so several speech courses can be taught simultaneously without disturbing neighboring classes. A new fire access way will be constructed at the west and north sides of the existing Performing Arts Center building to provide adequate emergency access for fire vehicles, and a new lakefront pedestrian walkway will allow for easier access between this new facility and the existing buildings on campus. The construction of the Speech/Drama Addition project is State funded at $7,904,000 and requires an additional $5,000,000 to be funded by the District. |
