On a rocky seashore on the coast of Cornwall the pirates of Penzance are holding a party to celebrate the apprentice Frederic's promotion to the status of full-blown pirate on the expiry of his indentures.

Young Frederick meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two young people fall instantly in love.

Today is the 29th of February, 1897, and it is his twenty-first birthday. His health is duly drunk, and in a speech of thanks Frederic startles the pirates by telling them of his intention to leave them for good.

However, the Pirate King reminds Frederic that since he only has a birthday each leap year, he must serve for another 63 years.

Bound by his own sense of duty, Frederic's only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.

Indigo Ensemble

March 18th at 2:30 p.m.

The Indigo Ensemble from Berlin, Germany, is a chamber music quartet with a non-traditional instrumentation consisting of violin, guitar, bass & piano. The girth of their repertoire encompasses four continents and three centuries.  The aural possibilities of the group are enhanced by the fact that all the musicians play multiple instruments.

Rodrigo Guzman is a classical concert guitarist who easily transitions to more modern fare. Johannes Neupertis is a virtuoso violinist, adept at everything from Shubert to swing to Sting. Double bassist Peter Nelson is at home both with philharmonics and local jazz clubs. Rafael de Torres works as a concert pianist but relaxes behind whatever keyboard he faces.

The NY Times described RECKLESS as "... a bittersweet Christmas fable for our time, "It's A Wonderful Life" as it might be re-imagined for a bruising contemporary America in which homelessness may be a pervasive spiritual condition rather than a sociological crisis....it yanks us through every conceivable absurdest hoop..."

The play begins on Christmas Eve, Rachel is in bed with her husband recalling wonderful childhood memories of watching "It's A Wonderful Life" at which point her husband breaks down and tells her he has hired a hitman to kill her and now she must flee for her life.
