Education Victor Valley College proposes to improve the Automotive Program by providing training for the Automotive Repair Technician and the Automotive Machinist by using the engine analyzer, computer simulator board, cylinder block hone, and cylinder block surfacer to prepare students/technicians using the same equipment as industry. Funds will also be used for curriculum development and staff development activities to upgrade skills in the use of the new equipment. The objectives will focus on the following: 1. Increase the learning outcomes of 150 automotive students/technicians through the training on the engine analyzer and the On Board Diagnostic System II Computer Simulator Board. 2. Seventy five percent of the 17 faculty members will be trained in the use of the engine analyzer and simulator computer board and will incorporate the technological teaching strategies to advance learning in the classroom. 3. Increase the learning and skills of 50 students by developing the Automotive Machinist Training Program, by implementation of the standards used in the automotive machinist field, and certification exams used by National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence. Activities will include the following: equipment acquisition, curriculum revisions, designing a working lab book, course evaluation, workshop and faculty training on use of the equipment, video tutorial for website, coordination of faculty training with Staff Development, and student preparation for ASE certification exams. Formative and summative evaluation will be tied to the completion of the project objectives and activities. We plan enrollment for 150 students and expect course completion by 75% of students. |
