1. Overview Of The District
Victor Valley College was founded in 1961 to serve the burgeoning population of the high desert of San Bernardino County. The college held its first classes next to the gymnasium on the campus of Victor Valley Union School District. Approximately 500 students attended those first classes administered and taught by 14 pioneer instructors. Today, Victor Valley College has blossomed into a comprehensive community college with 9,000 full time day and evening students attending its modern 230-acre campus.
The college prides itself on offering a host of courses at community-based sites within its district. Those include courses at Apple Valley High School, Hesperia High School, Lucerne Valley Community Center, Mojave High School, Serrano High School, Silverado High School and additional sites at transportation centers, fire departments, public work yards, area utility companies which offer specialized training and instruction relevant to that particular instructional site.
To meet the changing economic, technological, and environmental needs of the community, VVC provides degree and certificate programs which prepare students for career opportunities. These programs train, retrain, and upgrade student career skills through existing occupational/vocational and general education programs as well as partnership and contractual education with the private sector and public agencies.
