Short Term:  

·     Achieve intellectually challenging instruction in a variety of courses for a diverse student population.

·     To have a “smart classroom” which integrates technology and multimedia into the classroom.

·     Satisfy transfer needs of students to 4-year colleges.

·     Satisfy employment needs of students and businesses.

Long Term:  

·     Provide opportunities for student career advancement.

·     Identify and incorporate future needs of businesses.

·     Create an environment in which students are encouraged to seek graduate level education.

4.7C        Specific Goals, Objectives And Resource Needs For This Cluster

Short Term Objectives:  

·     To prepare students with immediate employable skills.  These skills include writing, computational, oral communication, and human relation skills.

·     Integrate more technology into the business classroom.

·     To prepare students to transfer to a four year institution.  These skills also include writing, computational, oral communication and human relation skills, critical thinking and analysis skills, as well as data base and spreadsheet computer skills.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     To provide career enhancement opportunity for students.  Students will not only receive necessary skills for entry level employment, but receive the skills for career development.

·     For students transferring to a four year college, encourage and assist students to seek graduate level education.

Resources Required - Short Term:  

Personnel  

·     Full-time faculty members as needed for program growth.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     A 25 station computer lab.

·     Internet/E-mail access for faculty and students.

Other Requirements  

·     Additional supplies monies will be needed to maintain a computer lab.

Professional Development  

·     Conference attendance, travel, and professional memberships.

Resources Required - Long Term:  

Personnel  

·     Full-time faculty members as needed for program growth.

·     Full-time Lab Technician for maintenance of the computer lab.  This may be shared with other departments.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Expand Business Computer Lab to 40 stations to meet the increase in course technology use.

Other Requirements  

·     Increase supplies budget as needed for operation of the computer lab and other necessary supplies.

Professional Development  

·     Increase department conference/travel/professional membership budget so department members can attend conferences for training and on the efficient and effective use of technology.

Short Term Objectives:  

·     To have a “smart classroom” which encompasses up-to-date technology and multimedia.

·     Facilitate open and continuous communication with community business leaders through the advisory committee.

·     Facilitate open and continuous communication with local secondary and post community college educational institutions such as CSUSB, Cal Baptist, etc., and proprietary schools.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     To incorporate socio-economic and psychological trends into the business curriculum by attending professional business seminars, reading professional journals, etc.

·     To provide seminars to local businesses, government agencies, and civic organizations as it relates to their social-economic needs.

·     The design and development of a “smart classroom” on campus with input from all departments.

·     Travel budget for attending professional seminars and training.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     There will be a need for access to classrooms and computer labs on weekends and non-instructional days.  This is necessary to help meet the needs of businesses.
