Short Term:  

·     Promote academic environment that allows for full participation by students desiring to enter the field of early childhood education.

·     Expand Child Development program to provide academic challenge with opportunities for field based learning.

·     Insure transferability of courses, certificates and degrees to CSU and UC systems.

   

Long Term:  

·     Continued provision of academic environment that allows for full participation by students in early childhood education.

·     Support opportunities for field based learning.

·     Review and update articulation agreements between CSU and UC systems.

4.11C       Specific Goals, Objectives And Resource Needs For This Cluster

   
GOAL #1:   To create an academic environment that allows for full participation by students desiring to enter the field of early childhood education.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Expand the full-time faculty, and thus, the frequency of course offerings, to meet the existing and anticipated demands for enrollment in the Child Development program.

·     Maintain dialogue with local high schools to insure program articulation.

·     Expand technology in the Child Development department as well as telecourse offerings to meet the needs of local and distance learners.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     (Objectives stated above have both short term and long term components and will not be restated here.)

Resources Required - Short Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     One additional full-time faculty member by 1998-99.

·     Increase in adjunct faculty to accommodate increase in course offerings in summer, fall, and spring semesters.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Office space, telephone, computer for new faculty member by fall 1998.

·     Materials to accommodate 2 new telecourses by Spring 1999.

Other Requirements  

·     Increase in supply budget to accommodate new faculty member.

·     Instructor time to develop 2 new telecourses by Spring 1999.

Professional Development  

·     Conference attendance for 1 faculty member for professional development in area of telecourse development and implementation.

Resources Required - Long Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     A second additional full-time faculty member by 2001-02.

·     Increase in adjunct faculty to accommodate increase in course offerings in summer, fall, and spring semesters.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Office space, telephone, computer for new faculty member by fall 2001.

·     Technology hardware and software sufficient to design and deliver on-line courses specifically among the core courses and the practicum requirements.

Other Requirements  

·     Increase in supply budget to accommodate new faculty member.

Professional Development  

·     Conference attendance or enrollment in training courses specific to on-line course development and delivery for one faculty member.

   
GOAL #2:   To expand the Child Development program in order to provide a rigorous academic challenge along with opportunities for field based learning that will fully prepare students for entry into the early childhood education profession.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Develop new courses to meet the licensing and credentialing demands.

·     Increase on-campus lab site opportunities through the expansion of the Child Development Center.

·     Meet the growing demand for Family Child Care Providers.

·     Create a Child Development web site by Fall, 1998.

·     Create a Child Development Job Placement Specialist to provide seamless transition into the workforce by Fall, 1998.

·     Expand contacts in community to provide opportunities for paid and volunteer internships in order to allow students to meet experience requirements.

Resources Required - Short Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     Instructor time to create an advanced practicum and an interdisciplinary Spanish course by June 1998 (paid for by grants).

·     Instructor time to create a series of specialization courses to meet permit requirements.

·     Instructor time to create a Family Child Care certificate by Fall, 1998, including a supervised practicum course specifically for Family Child Care providers and telecourses catering to the academic and logistical needs of early childhood professionals working in their home.

·     A Child Development Assistant to provide on-site mentoring services for Family Child Care providers.

·     Instructor time to research and write grant to fund the Child Development Assistant position.

·     Instructor time to outline and oversee development of Child Development web site.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Renovate two existing portables to provide a school-age child care classroom on campus by Spring, 1999.

·     Complete construction of permanent child care facility on upper campus by Fall, 2001.

·     Staff training necessary to integrate CPR and First Aid certification into existing Child Development 42: Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition.
