4.12A      Programs In This Cluster

4.12B       Overall Goals For This Cluster

Short Term:  

·     Lead the High Desert in providing education and training in computer information technology.

   

Long Term:  

·     Through working with the community and the industry and using new technologies, expand our cluster to attract students throughout the nation and the world.

4.12C       Specific Goals, Objectives And Resource Needs For This Cluster

   
GOAL #1:   Establish certification training centers for major computer industry leaders, such as Microsoft, Oracle, Novell and SUN.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Establish at least four (4) certification programs.

·     Implement all the established programs.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Expand these certification programs to attract students from a broad region through various distance education methods.

·     Establish and implement new industry certification programs as they become needed.

Resources Required - Short Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     Increase faculty as program growth requires.

·     Additional personnel for lab supervising and program coordination.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Computer laboratory with necessary hardware and software.

·     Adequate instructional facilities to accommodate various teaching styles.

Other Requirements  

·     Funding commensurate to the programs’ needs including but not limited to activities such as advertisement.

Professional Development  

·     Funded training for full-time instructors to become fully qualified for these certificate programs’ instruction.

·     Funded training for part-time instructors to become at least partially qualified for the instruction of these certificate programs.

Resources Required - Long Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     Additional instructors to meet the expanded needs.

·     Additional network and other technical personnel to facilitate and coordinate the expanded programs.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     State-of-art lab and communications facilities.

·     State-of-art instructional and course delivering facilities.

Other Requirements  

·     Funding commensurate to the needs of all aspects of  the programs including but not limited to activities such as research, planning, and marketing.

Professional Development  

·     Continuous funded training for both full-time and part-time instructors to meet the ever growing educational needs.

   
GOAL #2:   Expand the programs to take full advantage of the newest technologies such as Internet based Distance Education and any new methods yet to come.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Make at least half of all courses offered available in an alternative style such as distant and distributive delivery.

·     Develop a more specific plan by the turn of the century on how to implement new technologies in education to best meet our students’ needs and to produce the best results.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Become a leader in using state-of-art information technologies in education.

·     Market our educational products nationally and globally.

Resources Required - Short Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     Additional instructors to staff new courses.

·     Additional support staff to facilitate new courses.

·     Personnel to analyze, research, and plan for the new educational methods.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     New equipment and facilities to support expanded program needs.

Other Requirements  

·     Adequate funding including but not limited to activities such as marketing and traveling.

·     Funded short and mid term training for all instructors and support staff to stay on top of their professional fields.

GOAL #3:   Expand the cluster’s certificate programs, articulation courses, and General Education courses to the maximum.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Add between five (5) to ten (10) new certificates to the department.

·     Clean up the current course list to make courses articulable and/or  General Ed courses where appropriate.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Continue to develop new certificate programs to meet the new demands of the industry.

·     Develop new articulable and General Ed courses whenever possible.

·     Actively work with high schools and universities to form programs and partnerships to streamline the flow of courses between high schools and this department as well as between the department and other universities.

·     Adequate equipment to support all new certificate programs’ needs.

Short Term (1998-2000):  

 

Personnel  

·     Increase faculty to meet program demands.

·     Add support staff as needed in the area of lab supervising, network and database administration.

·     As needed, hire personnel in curriculum development, program coordination, new technology and educational methods research and planning.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Maintain a state-of-art computer and communications laboratory.

·     Establish and maintain state-of-art instructional and course delivery facilities.

Other Requirements  

·     Funding in the areas of curriculum development, research, planning, marketing, and traveling.

·     Funding to support the needs in developing and promoting the program.

Professional Development  

·     Continuous training for full-time, part-time, and support staff to stay ahead in their professional fields.

·     Continuous training for all faculty and staff to master those alternative educational methods and to utilize new technologies to best serve the students’ needs.

Long Term (2001-2005+):  

 

Personnel  

·     Adequate staffing in all needed areas including instruction, lab management, curriculum development, and all other relevant activities.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     Maintain a state-of-art computer and communications laboratory.

·     Establish and maintain a state-of-art instructional and course delivery facilities.
