GOAL #1:   To expand course offerings and instructional delivery modes in the political science program at Victor Valley College.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Expand course section offerings to respond to developing student needs.

·     Internationalize the curriculum further by expanding the Comparative Government course to an “A” and “B” set to double the countries studied.

·     Outreach and enrich the local community adding courses on Community Governance and Development, and Leadership.

·     Expand paralegal course offerings to enhance variety and specialty areas.

·     Explore the feasibility and need for Public Administration Certificate program through a joint venture with the Business Administration Department.

·     Explore the feasibility and need for an intern program for political science majors and paralegal certificate students in local community and governmental agencies.

·     Survey local public agencies, design and implement contract education and training programs which may be offered through political science that would respond to documented needs.

·     Expand student access to alternative instructional delivery systems such as applicable lab software programs, on-campus Internet access, live/2-way video conferencing, online courses, and open-entry/exit courses.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Offer every political science course under the traditional/on-campus, online, and open-entry/exit formats.

·     Attain American Bar Association certification for the Paralegal Certificate program.

·     Implement viable internship and certificate programs.

·     Have a separate or dedicated classroom/lab space with 30 student desk/work stations that can alternately be used as a computer/video-equipped classroom, live/2-way video conferencing, and student study stations.

GOAL #2:   Implement effective classroom accountability measures in political science.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Develop and implement faculty mentoring and colloquiums for instructional improvement in political science.

·     Implement student evaluations for each political science course offered.

·     Achieve a 90% rating level of satisfactory responses from students surveyed in political science courses through the ongoing student evaluation process.

·     Establish formal links with our political science colleagues in the area high schools and universities to improve curriculum congruity and transfer.

·     Identify and strengthen critical thinking strategies and research and writing standards within the political science curriculum.

·     Develop and implement measures of student outcomes through pre/post-tests, tracking of students pursuing political science majors, and other appropriate measurement tools.

·     Maintain student withdrawals not to exceed 25% of total course enrollment.

·     Inventory and enhance library holdings relevant to political science courses.

·     Continue to implement classroom quality and accountability measures.

·     Establish formal interstate and international links with students and faculty outside of California (person-to-person, video-conferencing, Internet, etc.).
