GOAL #1:   Develop Sociological Core of Knowledge by offering additional curriculum within Sociology.
   

Short Term Objectives:  

·     Offer Social Problems course.

·     Develop and add Sociology of Sports course.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Develop a core curriculum package in line with transfer requirements for a degree in Sociology for CSU and UC which would allow our graduates transfer to those institutions with Upper Division standing.

Resources Required - Short Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     Hire additional part-time faculty to meet growing enrollment needs.

·     Hire a full-time position to meet growing enrollment needs.

·     Hire a student aide as required by program growth.

Facilities/Equipment  

·     A permanent dedicated Sociology classroom with “smart” technology (computer, video projection, lighting).

·     Develop a Sociological component to a dedicated social science computer lab.

Professional Development  

·     Increase funding to send faculty to professional workshops, conferences, and clinics.

Resources Required - Long Term:  

 

Personnel  

·     Hire a full-time sociology instructor as required by program growth.

·     Increase lab/student assistant positions as needed for growth.

·     A permanent dedicated Social Science complex (building or portion of building) where a dedicated sociology classroom could be located.

·     A dedicated Social Science computer lab located in the Social Science building.

·     Develop Distance Education opportunities in sociology in the form of Telecourses and Internet courses.

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Continue to develop and implement new technology into sociology courses as such technology becomes accessible to faculty and students (i.e.: Internet).

Resources Required - Short Term:

·     Hire additional part-time faculty in Sociology as required by program growth.

·     Hire additional full-time faculty in Sociology as needed for growth.

·     Insure curriculum in Sociology investigates and presents multicultural and diversity issues.

·     Develop an interdisciplinary Ethnic Studies component in Social Science.

·     Develop sociology courses which investigate specific ethnic groups in America (i.e.:  Native American Indians, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, European Americans, Women in America).

Long Term Objectives:  

·     Develop an interdisciplinary Ethnic Studies component in Social Science.
