INTEGRATED PLANNING MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
OCTOBER 3, 2003 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
FACILITATOR: DR. TOM MILLER
In attendance: David Bell, Mark Clair, Jeffrey Holmes, Dr. Tom Miller, Pamela Penland, Paul Tonning
Many committee members were unable to attend today's meeting, as they were attending a Student Learning Outcomes training session in San Diego. Those in attendance discussed the following:
Surveys - It is necessary to conduct surveys for accreditation. Dr. Lewallen will be initiating the process soon.
College-Wide Goals - Input Process: Dr. Miller and Dr. Spencer have collaborated on a form to be distributed on campus to obtain input into college-wide goals. Constituent groups and community representatives will be giving input on the college goals at an expanded Integrated Planning Committee meeting, hopefully this fall. David indicated that one of the goals should deal with student learning outcomes. Dr. Miller said we should compare our goals to the new VVC Mission Statement.
Other - Per Dr. Miller, Dr. Marc Skuster is working on the faculty staffing section of the Master Plan. There was general discussion of the need to facilitate a process for new program development, especially in program areas not currently being offered. This is an important part of any long range planning initiative. The Faculty Senate has added new program planning oversight to the Program Discontinuance Committee. There was discussion regarding opportunities for the college in contract education in conjunction with the SCLA and the prisons and new Apple Valley Juvenile center, among others. Jeffrey Holmes agreed toinvestigate what may be done in some of these areas.
Next Meeting - November 7, 2003, 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. - Board Room
