Program Review FAQ's
  1. What is Program Review?
Program Review is a process of self-study, evaluation, and planning undertaken by each "Department" (as defined in the Program Review Guide) at Victor Valley College. Completion of the process is documented by each Department in a Program Review Report.

  2. Why do Program Review?
Program Review is recommended as a way to monitor, maintain, and improve Department effectiveness in promoting student learning. It also meets requirement for evaluation, planning, and improvement found throughout the ACCJC Standards for Accreditation.

  3. Is Program Review required?
Yes. Please contact your supervising Vice-President for details regarding the consequences of noncompliance.

  4. How often must a Program Review be completed?
Each VVC Department completes a Program Review every five years.

  5. When is my Department scheduled?
Click on Master Schedule in the main menu for this page in order to find the year during which each Department is scheduled.

  6. Where do I get Program Review data?
All department can contact Mark Clair mclair@vvc.edu, Research Office, for access to the Decision Support System, and for assistance with Satisfaction Surveys and research information. Note that Noninstructional Departments are responsible for developing, distributing, and compiling satisfaction surveys and also for maintaining and compiling productivity records.

  7. Where do I get more information?
Contact the Office of Planning and Resource Development and Dr. Fay Freeman, Director of Instructional Compliance, for additional information.

  8. Who is responsible for completing my Department's Program Review?
Primary responsibility rests with the Department Program Review Team, consisting of the Department Head and his or her immediate supervisor. For Instructional Departments, this Team consists of the Department Chair and the supervising Dean. For Noninstructional Departments, this team may consist of a Dean and supervising Vice President or a Director and Dean. All members of the Department are expected to participate in Program Review.

  12. Is it possible to delay a Program Review?
Personnel changes and department reorganization are just two possible reasons which would justify re-scheduling a Department's Program Review. Contact the Director of Instructional Compliance for discussion and approval of the rescheduling request.

  13. Does an outside review replace a VVC Program Review?
Any equivalent outside review satisfies the VVC Program Review requirement. The review should include a written report which includes the following components: description, evaluation, planning, resource needs. Contact the Director of Instructional Compliance for approval of the substitution.

  14. Does Program Review do any good?
The Program Review process is, itself, under ongoing review for effectiveness. Every Department is asked to complete an evaluation of the process and to provide suggestions for its improvement. It's too soon to tell if there have been significant positive results.

  15. How long does my Department have to complete a Program Review?
Each annual Program Review calendar begins with the notification of scheduled departments in January. Progress Reports are due on May 1 and September 15. Completed Reports are due in the Office of Planning and Resource Development on November 15th. The final report (including revisions, if necessary) is submitted by the following February 1st to the appropriate Vice President, President, Cabinet, College Assembly, and Faculty Senate.
