Program
Review FAQ's
- What is
Program Review?
Program Review is a process of self-study, evaluation, and planning
undertaken by each "Department" (as defined in the Program
Review Guide) at Victor Valley College. Completion of the process
is documented by each Department in a Program Review Report.
- Why do
Program Review?
Program Review is recommended as a way to monitor, maintain, and
improve Department effectiveness in promoting student learning.
It also meets requirement for evaluation, planning, and improvement
found throughout the ACCJC Standards for Accreditation.
- Is Program
Review required?
Yes. Please contact your supervising Vice-President for details
regarding the consequences of noncompliance.
- How often
must a Program Review be completed?
Each VVC Department completes a Program Review every five years.
- When
is my Department scheduled?
Click on Master Schedule in the main menu for this page in order
to find the year during which each Department is scheduled.
- Where
do I get Program Review data?
All department can contact Mark Clair mclair@vvc.edu, Research
Office, for access to the Decision Support System, and for assistance
with Satisfaction Surveys and research information. Note that
Noninstructional Departments are responsible for developing, distributing,
and compiling satisfaction surveys and also for maintaining and
compiling productivity records.
- Where
do I get more information?
Contact the Office of Planning and Resource Development and Dr.
Fay Freeman, Director of Instructional Compliance, for additional
information.
- Who is
responsible for completing my Department's Program Review?
Primary responsibility rests with the Department Program Review
Team, consisting of the Department Head and his or her immediate
supervisor. For Instructional Departments, this Team consists
of the Department Chair and the supervising Dean. For Noninstructional
Departments, this team may consist of a Dean and supervising Vice
President or a Director and Dean. All members of the Department
are expected to participate in Program Review.
- Who pays
the expenses for my Department's Program Review?
Contact the Office of Planning and Resource Development and your
supervising Vice President for assistance with special expenses
directly related to Program Review.
- Can I
get help with typing and duplication?
The Office of your supervising administrator and the Office of
Planning and Resource Development are able to provide clerical
assistance.
- What
happens if my Department misses the deadline?
Please contact the Director of Instructional Compliance and reach
agreement on a new deadline. Then notify your supervising Vice
President and the participants in your Program Review of this
new deadline.
- Is it
possible to delay a Program Review?
Personnel changes and department reorganization are just two possible
reasons which would justify re-scheduling a Department's Program
Review. Contact the Director of Instructional Compliance for discussion
and approval of the rescheduling request.
- Does
an outside review replace a VVC Program Review?
Any equivalent outside review satisfies the VVC Program Review
requirement. The review should include a written report which
includes the following components: description, evaluation, planning,
resource needs. Contact the Director of Instructional Compliance
for approval of the substitution.
- Does
Program Review do any good?
The Program Review process is, itself, under ongoing review for
effectiveness. Every Department is asked to complete an evaluation
of the process and to provide suggestions for its improvement.
It's too soon to tell if there have been significant positive
results.
- How long
does my Department have to complete a Program Review?
Each annual Program Review calendar begins with the notification
of scheduled departments in January. Progress Reports are due
on May 1 and September 15. Completed Reports are due in the Office
of Planning and Resource Development on November 15th. The final
report (including revisions, if necessary) is submitted by the
following February 1st to the appropriate Vice President, President,
Cabinet, College Assembly, and Faculty Senate.
