students who are concurrently enrolled in college courses.
Excelsior Education Center, a high school located
just outside the VVC campus, has approximately
60 students enrolled in college courses. EEC is
a home study program in which students are allowed
to work ahead and graduate early. Students earn
three high school units for each college unit
they take.
EEC usually starts recommending
college courses to students in their junior year,
according to Program Director Client Services
Peter Wright.
"It depends on the student's
level of maturity," said Wright. "Students must
have good standing at Excelsior."
Wright estimates that the
youngest EEC student enrolled at VVC is 15. Starting
college early helps students "get a jump start
on life," said Wright. "They can develop an adult
responsibility for their education."
