RamPage Online :: Journalism DEPARTMENT

Course of Study

The students who produce the RamPage are enrolled in the journalism program, the only such program taught at the college level in the high desert of San Bernardino County. The newspaper is published as an academic exercise and First Amendment Public Forum.

Students in the initial, "reporting" class study topics including interviewing techniques, writing strategies, legal/ethical issues and career options related to journalism.

The introductory class is offered from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays in Advanced Technology Center Room 133 during both regular semesters (Fall and Spring) and is worth 4 units of transferable credit.

Students who earn at least a "C" in that initial course (Journalism 108) are welcome to continue on the newspaper's staff as editors by taking the 1 to 3 unit class, Journalism 108L (taught 7: to 8:25 p.m., Monday and Wednesday in ATC133).

Students also have the opportunity to earn a certificate in journalism. For details, see the college catalog.

Amenities

To the extent possible, the RamPage program provides enrichment to the students. These opportunities include field trips to off-campus journalism conferences; participation in regional journalism competitions; and notification of relevant scholarship competitions.

Each semester ends with a "wrap" party with pop and pizza in the Student Activities Center.
