The following data
depicts Victor Valley College's student statistics for the Spring semester
of 2000. All data are based
upon an overall, unduplicated headcount aggregated on the first day
of first census.
Chart 1 illustrates
that VVC, credit students represent 90.5% of the overall student population;
whereas,
non-credit students represent 9.5% of the student population.
Chart 2 reveals that
females account for nearly two-thirds of the student population. The percentage
of
males (37.8%) is up 1.4% from Fall 1999.
The two largest groups
depicted in Chart 3 are 18-20 years of age (26.0%) and 31-40 years of
age
(17.1%). The 31-40 age group decreased by 1.1% from the previous Fall.
However, the under 18
group increased by 1.0%. Since the previous Fall, the average age of students
remained unchanged at 31.
A larger percentage
of males is found for all age groups below 31 years of age as shown in
Chart 4.
A larger percentage of females is found for all age groups above 30 years
of age. 68.1% of the male population
is younger than 31 years of age in comparison to 54.7% of the female population.
As the findings in
Chart 5 indicate, 44.5% of students are enrolled in credit courses during
the day. This
is a larger percentage than students taking day and evening, credit courses
and only evening, credit courses
combined.
Chart 6 indicates that
43.3% of students are obtaining a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better. This percentage
is down
1.6% from Fall 1999.
A larger percentage
of males is found for all categories below a G.P.A. of 2.50 as shown in
Chart 4.
A larger percentage of females is found for all categories above a G.P.A.
of 2.49. 38.5% of the male population
is obtaining a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better; whereas, 45.9% of the female population
is obtaining a G.P.A. Of 3.0 or
better. These percentages have decreased since Fall 1999 for females and
males by 1.2% and 1.9%, respectively.

Chart 10 depicts that
the largest, unit category is 12-15, encompassing 24.4% of the student
population.
This percentage is 2.0% lower than that denoted for Fall 1999.
Most categories reveal
similar gender proportions as indicated in Chart 11. However, 12.1% of
the female
population in comparison to only 5.3% of the male population are currently
enrolled in non-credit classes (0.0 units).
Chart 12 reveals that
over half (53.8%) of the student population is taking less than 3 classes.
Chart 13 indicates
that both males and females are enrolling in the number of classes in
a very similar manner.
The table below reveals
the counts depicted graphically in Chart 14.

The table above
illustrates that among all college students, 62.5% are categorized as
White Non-Hispanic, 37.1% are
Nonwhite and .3% declined to respond or were uncollected. The largest
percentage of Nonwhite students are Hispanic
(23.0%).
