Elibility and Student Commitments
Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education guidelines. To qualify you must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a low-income and/or first generation student
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
- Be enrolled in 9 or more units at VVC
- Have a need for academic support
Upon acceptance into the program, all SSS applicants sign the SSS Student Responsibility Agreement. This agreement is a contract between the participant and the program. Listed below are some of the mandatory commitments for all SSS students to be in good standing and remain a program participant:
- Attend classes regularly, strive to achieve your best GPA possible and be in good academic standing at Victor Valley College
- A minimum of 2 contacts with the SSS counselor or other VVC counselor (EOPS, DSPS, Generalist) each semester to review academic progress
- Attendance and Participation in at least 2 SSS program sponsored activities (workshops, campus visits, cultural event) during the academic year
- Follow the Educational Program Plan agreed upon by you and your counselor to ensure timely completion of your VVC educational goals
- Arrive on time and be prepared for scheduled SSS tutoring and/or counseling sessions and call the office if you are unable to keep your appointment
- Communicate any educational, social or personal problems that may hinder your academic progress to your SSS counselor or director
- Demonstrate continued academic progress and successfully complete your academic goal(s) at Victor Valley College.
