Upward Bound
Upward Bound is a federally funded TRiO program, designed to assist eligible high school students with preparation for postsecondary education and attainment of a bachelor degree. Our program services 50 participants from the following partner high schools: Hesperia, Silverado and Victor Valley.
Students selected to participant in the Upward Bound Program must meet certain guidelines, such as being a first-generation college student or meeting income guidelines set by the Department of Education or must have a need for academic support.
The following services and activities are provided to participants during the Academic and Summer components.
- Weekly After School Tutoring Sessions at Partner High Schools.
- Northern and Southern College Tours.
- Supplemental Instruction in English, Math, Science, and Foreign Language.
- Six-Week Intense College Experience Summer Program.
- SAT/ACT Preparation and Registration Workshops.
- Individualized Education Plans & Curriculum Advisement .
- Academic, Career & Personal Guidance.
- Career, Leadership, Study Skills and Test Taking Strategies Workshops.
- College Admissions & Application Submisssions.
- Assistance Financial Aid and Scholarship Applications.
- Cultural & Educational Field Trips.
- Parent Orientations.
- Assistance with High School and College Credits.
PURPOSE OF THE UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM
- To inspire and instruct participants in specific academic areas of English, Math, Science and Foreign Language.
- Provide participants with a unique college experience.
- To encourage students to pursue a higher education.
- To provide participants personalized college preparation through personal counseling, academic advising and tutorial assistance.
- Expose participants to cultural enrichment events and field trips.
- Provide college and university entrance advisement.
- Focus on academic achievement, career development, and financial assistance.
