SELECTING YOUR CLASSES
PRE-TEST

One of the most frequently asked questions by new students is, "What classes do I need to take?" The answer will depend on your educational objective.  Before we begin the topic of class selection, there are some college terms you should know so that your class selections will be meaningful.  Let's take a quick quiz to see how much you already know about the following terms.  Click on the correct letter.

Question 1: A "major" is...

A. a group of courses that help build your study skills.
B. a group or series of classes designed to provide in-depth, intensive education or training in a specialized area.
C. a career planning class.

Question 2: Can you tell us what "general education" classes are?

A. Classes that help students with physical fitness.
B. A group or series of classes designed to provide in-depth, intensive education or training in a specialized area.
C. Classes in many areas, i.e. English, math, social sciences, sciences, and humanities.

Question 3: What are "electives?"

A. Classes that may not fall into the category of your major or general education.
B. Classes that are only offered in the Art Department.
C. Classes that are offered off campus.
