Scholarships

Applying for scholarships is a great way to help fund your education (e.g., tuition, books, housing, etc.) at the community college and university level. Scholarships often request that you provide an application, essay or personal statement, resume, and/or letter of recommendation. Community service, involvement in extracurricular activities, and a competitive GPA may be considered for certain scholarships. If you are transferring, make sure to visit the financial aid and scholarship websites (or offices) of the universities you are considering to attend.

Below is a list of scholarship websites. Some websites provide a listing of multiple scholarship opportunities nationwide. Contact the organization/company directly about requirements and deadlines. Please note, you should never have to pay a scholarship application fee, or to view scholarship lists. Good luck!

 

• HACU Scholarship Program
  Open to students pursuing a college degree in a variety of majors. Must demonstrate financial need.
  Deadline: Friday, May 25, 2012

• Victor Valley College (VVC) Foundation Scholarships
  All VVC students are eligible to participate.
  Deadline: March 17, 2012

• CalRTA (California Retired Teachers Association)
  For VVC students receiving their AA/AS in the spring 2012, transferring to a four-year university in the fall 2012, and planning to pursue a career in teaching/counseling.
  Deadline: March 17, 2012

  Includes a listing of scholarships, internships, and fellowships.
  
  

• MALDEF Scholarship Resources
  AB 540 students are eligible to participate. Make sure to contact the organization/company directly with any questions.

Academic Enrichment Programs

 

 

• CCCP (Center for Community College Partnership) Scholars Summer Program - UCLA
  The goal is to motivate, inform, and to prepare students from a California community college to selective institutions such as UCLA.
  Application deadlines begin in May.
  
  

• Cal Summer Experience Program - UC Berkeley
  A 3-day residential program for community college students considering transfer that provides students admissions sessions, lectures, personal statement writing workshops, campus tour, etc.
  
  

• SMDEP (Summer Medical Dental Education Program) - UCLA
  A six-week summer academic preparation program for freshmen/sophomore college students interested in entering medical/dental careers.
  Application deadline: March 1, 2012
  
  

• PREP (Premedical/Predental Enrichment Program) - UCLA
  A seven-week summer academic enrichment program to learn about the rigors of academic medicine/dentistry.
  Application deadline: March 1, 2012
  
  

• SUMMA (Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance)
  Premedical Student Conference
  Conference is held every February. Registration opens in December.
  
  

• AMSA (American Medical Student Association)
  American River College/UC Davis
  Pre-Medical and Pre-Public Health Conference
  Conference is held every October. Registration opens in August.
  
  

• LMSA (Latino Medical Student Association) at UC Irvine
  Conference is held every October. Registration opens in August/September.
  
  

• SSHCOP (Stanford Summer Health Careers Opportunity Program)
  A six-week residential program for undergraduate college students who wish to pursue a career in the medical field.
