ONLINE VIRTUAL CAMPUS

There are a few things necessary to becoming a successful online student:

  1. A strong motivation to learn and succeed.
  2. Good college-level study skills.
  3. Access to a computer connected to the Internet.
  4. Basic familiarity with computer and software use.
  5. Basic familiarity with using the Web and e-mail.

Research shows that students who are successful in online courses are highly motivated.  Research further shows that these students possess good fundamental study skills, as well.

Being Prepared

A common misconception is that online classes are somehow "easier" than "conventional" courses.  This is absolutely false!  In fact, the content is exactly the same in both kinds of classes, and both require hard work and diligence for success.

If you've had some difficulty with college classes in the past, you may want to consider taking advantage of some of the many study-skills oriented offerings at the VVCC Academic Commons.  There are workshops, tutoring, and much more available for students - all free of charge.

It is also worth noting that many first-time online learners have to cope with some new delivery and communication processes.  You should consider this carefully.

Taking "AVOCAT 60 HOW TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL ONLINE STUDENT" will help you become comfortable using computer software, Web sites, and email.
