How to Access MyMathLab

My MyMathLab course ID:

Why should I use MyMathLab?

ü      Costs less than a hardcover textbook.

ü      Video lectures for when I am absent.

ü      Extra practice worksheets.

ü      Practice exams online.

How do I access MyMathLab?

Go directly to http://students.pearsoned.com and press the Register button.

You will get the following screen:

If you had MyMathLab codes bundled with your textbook when you purchased it, hit the “Next” button in the bottom right corner of your screen.

If you purchased a used textbook, or have no book yet, click the “Purchase online access” link above credit card logos.  You will be asked to enter the Course ID listed above.  At this point you will need to go through the usual process of entering a credit card number and creating a login name and password.  Follow the links from there.

If you just clicked “Next” because you already have an access code, enter your access code and create a login name and password:

Every time you wish to use MyMathLab, go to http://students.pearsoned.com and hit the “Log In” button.  (I suggest you bookmark this page.)  Then enter the login name and password you created when you registered with MyMathLab:

Next, click on the link that takes you to your class.

You will see a welcome screen that looks like this:

It is very important that you update your software the first time you use MyMathLab.  You will want to do this on each computer that you might use.  The first announcement, MyMathLab Software Installation Wizard, has a link to a page which will check whether you have the latest update for a variety of plug-ins.  Scroll down to Item 3 and hit “Detect” for each of the plug-ins.

You are now ready to start using all of the features of MyMathLab!  Click on the “Course Documents” tab to proceed into the course itself.

In the “Course Documents” section, you will see the following:

Note that you can access the Student’s Solution Manual, or just the answers to just the odd-numbered exercises.  Each chapter link below will lead you into the named chapter.  Let’s look inside chapter 3, for example.

As you can see, you get another set of choices.  At the bottom of the list (if you scroll down) there is a link to practice tests.  More on that later…

Let’s choose section 3.3, for example.

The first thing listed within each section is the Video Lecture.  Choosing this option will allow you to access a classroom lecture approximately 20-25 minutes long!  Hopefully, you have already installed all of the plug-ins such as Real Player.  Note that media files use quite a bit of memory; unless you have a DSL or cable modem, you might wish to take a short break while the video downloads.

The next thing listed is the Multimedia textbook itself.  At first glance, it appears to be an exact replica of your book itself.  Upon further examination, however, you will find extra buttons called “You try it” and “Explore.”  You can print out this section or just read it on your screen.

The next thing listed within each section, “Practice End-of-Section Exercises” is an exact copy of the homework exercises within your textbook.  You might wish to print out these pages, so your homework on them, and then submit them when your homework is due.

You will also find Extra Practice worksheets and Answers within many of the sections.  Use them if you wish extra practice.

Back to the practice tests… Each chapter contains two practice tests.  Computers can be very picky about input, so I suggest that you follow the link “How to enter your answers” that will appear after you choose your sample test.  It will give you pointers on how to enter fractions, for instance.

Here is a sample screen from a practice test.  Notice that it is not multiple choice.  This is likely to be a good preparation for your actual chapter test.

After taking the practice tests, you can then click on the My Chapter Study Plan link (it is located just below the link to the practice tests.  The Chapter Study Plan will take into account the problems you missed while taking the practice test(s) and custom-design further review to meet your weak areas.
