Mrs. Mary Rice, a Kindergarten teacher at Mesquite Trails Elementary School in Hesperia was honored by the “Teachers are Heroes” program for her dedication to learning and passion for teaching.
The nomination of Mrs. Rice pointed out that her love of children and her excitement of sharing knowledge was evident every single day in the classroom. The essay reported that Mrs. Rice's influence and passion for classroom instruction stimulated a love for learning that would be carried forward by her students for the rest of their lives. The nomination went on to say, “Mrs. Rice gave her students more than the basics. She gave them a beginning to a wonderful educational journey.”
Up until this year, Mrs. Rice taught kindergarten but now teaches a different grade level.
The Teachers are Heroes Program honors one kindergarten
through 14 teacher every month out of the nearly 7,000
teachers in the High Desert. Teachers are selected
based on essays submitted to Clear Channel Radio
stations and
then reviewed by a panel of judges.
Honorees receive gift certificates for school supplies,
a recognition plaque, and special treats for the classroom.
At the end of the year, all twelve honorees and their
students will be invited to an annual celebration held
at Maverick Stadium.
“We are honoring teachers who go above and beyond, be it in the classroom,
the school, or the community,” said Lori Kildal, Ph.D., Dean of Instruction
at Victor Valley College.
