Elaine Mosman, first grade teacher at Marianna Elementary School in Apple Valley, was honored this week as the selected nominee for the “Teachers are Heroes” Program sponsored by Victor Valley College, San Bernardino County Schools, Clear Channel Radio, and Desert Community Bank.

In an essay submitted by the mother of a student in Mrs. Mosman's class, the nominator wrote, “I don not know where to begin. Mrs. Mosman is such a wonderful teacher. My daughter absolutely loves her and loves being in her class.

Not only does Mrs. Mosman love her students, but this professional has utmost patients. As a full-time working parent, my daughter's teacher makes it easy for me to be involved as much as possible. She definitely goes above and beyond every day! As a small example of her kind heart and dedication to the students and their families, this instructor has even offered to let both of my daughters in her classroom early every morning. Mrs.

Mosman does this because she knows I have to be at work by 8:30 and school starts at 9:00 a.m. I can't express my appreciation for everything she does.

There should be more teachers out there like her, and I am so lucky that she is my daughter's teacher. My daughters and I would nominate her a million times.

The Teachers are Heroes Program honors one kindergarten through 14 teacher every month out of the nearly 7,000 teachers in the High Desert. Teachers are selected based on essays submitted to Clear Channel Radio stations and then reviewed by a panel of judges.

Honorees receive gift certificates for school supplies, a recognition plaque, and special treats for the classroom. At the end of the year, all twelve honorees and their students will be invited to an annual celebration held at Maverick Stadium.

“We are honoring teachers who go above and beyond, be it in the classroom, the school, or the community,” said Lori Kildal, Ph.D., Dean of Instruction at Victor Valley College.

    Teacher nominations may be submitted in the form of 500 words-or-less essays to www.KATCOUNTRY1007.com , www.Y102FM.com , www.TheFox106.com , www.Talk960.com, or www.vvc.edu.
