The Music Department of Victor Valley College
will present its Fall Choral Concert along with a special
guest appearance of the Hermitage Ensemble from St. Petersburg,
Russia, Saturday, October 14, 7:30 p.m. in Hansen Hall
at the Church of the Valley in Apple Valley. Church of
the Valley is located at 20700 Standing Rock Road, Apple
Valley, California, next to the Apple Valley City Hall/Library
complex.
The concert will feature the Master
Arts Chorale, College Singers, and Women’s Choir
with Dr. Thomas E. Miller and Pamela Telgenhoff conducting.
The first part of the
concert program includes songs by Dvorak, Rheinberger
and Rachmaninov.
The second half will feature special
guest artists, Hermitage, a 4-voice male vocal ensemble.
The classically
train¬ed singers draw on their country’s rich
heritage of sacred Russian Orthodox music and local folk
songs, which they have performed throughout Europe and
Australia for the past decade. This appearance is part
of the group’s
first-ever tour of the western United States.
The concert
brings to the high desert a
unique opportunity to participate in one of the world’s
more important musical cultures, without making the long
trip to Russia. The acoustics of Hansen Hall are also
similar in nature to the acoustics of many of the churches
and performance spaces for which the Hermitage repertoire
was originally written.
In a statement released by Program
Coordinator, Natalia Aksuticheva, said, “We are
very pleased to share our love of music with everyone
who wants to learn more
about our culture.”
The appearance of the Hermitage Ensemble is jointly
sponsored by the college and Church of the Valley.
