| 07-31-2006: 'PROJECTS' Update
Curriculum File
Clean up work continues on the curriculum file. We’re happy to report that
after several months of detailed work the master equate file in the live is clean.
Additional items will need to be added as they are detected. While cleaning up
that file however it was discovered that the retake credit flags on some courses
were set incorrectly. Instructional Office staff and A&R are reviewing
the file for problems and should have that issue resolved over the next month.
FACTS Being Rolled Out
While Bridges can’t take credit for designing or rolling out the new
student payment plan (FACTS) it was a team effort with the Finance Office to
get the
set up. With help from Justin in IT directions and links are soon to
be established on the VVC website to make the process seamless for students.
Work will begin this fall on developing an interface to Colleague from FACTS
to make it more
seamless for staff to use.
Transcript (Phase 1)
After struggling for several years with the ‘generic’ transcript
in Colleague, MIS with help from A&R was able to roll out the first generation
of the official Victor Valley student transcript. Initial feedback has been
very positive but already new enhancement requests have been coming in. Please
direct those suggestions to Greta Moon. It’s important to note that the
curriculum file issue from above has caused data accuracy problems which again
should be corrected next month.
Extra Help in A&R
With the retirement of Mary Marble several people have stepped up to fill the
void. As many know Greta Moon is serving in an interim position and has also
taken on several outstanding initiatives such as academic standing, repeat
practices and transcript development. Kurt Lehrmann also has regular weekly
meeting with Greta to ensure a consistent connection with MIS.
WebAdvisor/RamTalk/CCC Apply webpage
Click on the ‘WebAdvisor/DATATEL’ link at the top-left of the VVC
home page and check out the new design! Special thanks to Justin Gatewood on
the
redesign
that
significantly
improves access to important information and links to apply (CCC Apply) and
enrollment services (WebAdvisor and RamTalk). One of the main features is a
system status indicator display to notify users when WebAdvisor is down or
we have a planned outage.
What’s Happening in MIS?
Several new CPU’s have been purchased and will be installed within
a few weeks to ensure good transaction response speeds before we get in the
fall registration rush. It’s good to report that the system has been
stable for several months and is back under VVC management. Finally the restructuring
of Colleague security continues. New security charts have been presented
and over the next month will be set up in the test account for review. The
hope is to deploy this new structure after the fall semester begins.
Colleague Teams Redesigned
The next phase of the Colleague system management redesign has begun with the
first meeting of the Integration Team. Over the next month the goal of that
team is to appoint members to the Student Team which coordinates inter-module
processes, the Project Data Management/Core Team where system wide issues
and projects are coordinated and the Functional Team that work directly with
module set up and functionality. Over the nest few months these teams will
reexamine the 2005 Action Plan items from their respective areas and take
ownership on getting them resolved. More details will follow next month including
names of those appointed.
