Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT)

The California Community Colleges and the California State Universities created a transfer pathway called the Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T) to make it easier for community college students to transfer to a CSU campus and complete a bachelor’s degree.

The AA-T/AS-T degrees are designed to guarantee students admission to the CSU system in a major that is considered similar to the major they completed at Victor Valley College. Although the guarantee is to the CSU system (not a specific campus/major), students who complete the degree may receive a GPA bump when applying to an impacted campus outside the local area or to an impacted major that is deemed similar.

Once admitted to a similar major, students have the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree at the CSU with no more than 60 additional semester units. Because each CSU campus determines which majors are considered similar, students should work with a counselor to confirm which CSUs offer corresponding programs for their AA-T or AS-T major.

If you are interested in pursuing an AA-T or AS-T instead of a traditional AA or AS degree, meet with a counselor to develop an educational plan and make sure you are on track with all degree and CSU requirements.

Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/A-ST) Requirements

  • Completion of at least 60 CSU-transferable semester units
  • a minimum of 12 degree-applicable units must be completed at VVC
  • completion of the Area of Emphasis with a grade of C or higher in each course or with a P if the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis, and the P is equal to a C or higher
  • completion of either the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
  • Some AS-T programs only allow completion of IGETC. Please meet with a VVC Counselor to review requirements for earning an AS-T degree.
  • a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in all CSU-transferable units. Note: while a minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for admission to a CSU, some majors/campuses may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for details.
