The Associated Student Body (ASB) exists to serve and represent the entire Victor Valley College student population. The ASB Council is an 18-member group of elected student leaders who volunteer to advance the interests of higher education, coordinate student activities, and improve communication between students, faculty, administration, and the High Desert community.
Each year's Council represents the VVC student body through acts of leadership, advocacy and community outreach, accomplishing goals they set at the beginning of their term. Historically, ASB has been responsible for many positive changes at VVC and consistently supports and creates events and programs that benefit students and the community. The VVC Associated Study Body has been named the "Campus of the Year" by the American Student Association of Community Colleges three times, in 2004, 2008, and 2020.
Here are just a few examples of the types of events ASB contributes to:
• Since 2005, ASB has helped with placing the Flags of Honor, 3,000 American flags which represent those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Students help handwrite the 9/11 victims' names on cards and attach them to the flags, which are placed on the hillside adjacent to the VVC Library.
• ASB sponsors the Victor Valley College Lecture Series, which celebrates scientific achievements and includes presentations from world-renowned researchers. From its inception in 2015, the Lecture Series has provided VVC students and members of the community with incredible events at no cost to them, including a lecture from Nobel Laureate Kip Thorne in Jan. 2020.
• Each December, ASB coordinates "Lights of Love," a tradition going on more than 20 years which provides gifts to children of VVC students who are enrolled in specific programs offered at the college. In 2020, a total of 258 children were provided with gifts thanks to the generosity of the VVC campus family.
• During the Fall 2019 semester, ASB sponsored the creation of a community garden on campus, inspired by VVC agricultural students and the ASB goals established at the beginning of the year, which included campus beautification. The garden was built through a construction technology class and has led to additional discussions of developing a regularly offered class through which students can continue to improve and beautify the VVC campus.

“Public Comment is reserved for persons desiring to address the Associated Student Body Council of Victor Valley College on any matter of concern that is not slated on the agenda. A time limit of 3 minutes per speaker shall be observed. The law does not permit any action to be taken, nor extended discussion of any items not on the agenda. The chair may respond briefly to statements or questions made and consider requests to be placed for discussion on a future agenda.” (Brown Act §54954.3)
MEMBERSHIP
All currently enrolled Victor Valley College students who have purchased a current ASB card shall be considered members of the ASB.

The ASB Council certifies each club as a campus organization. Club certification must be renewed each year, meaning the number and variety of clubs change each year. For more information on current clubs and how to start one, see the “Campus Clubs” tab on the right of this page.
