NONCREDIT REGISTRATION
Please click the link above to register as a noncredit student at Victor Valley College. You will only be able to register for noncredit classes using this form but are welcome to complete the normal registration process at any time if you would like to take credit-bearing courses. Students who are current VVC students are already approved to take noncredit courses and do not need to complete a separate noncredit registration
If you are interested in an exciting career in the Pharmacy industry, Victor Valley College will be offering Pharmacy Technician training. Completion of the course will provide you with the education required to apply for your Pharmacy Technician License through the State of California Board of Pharmacy and sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).
Requirements for the program:
- High School Graduate/GED/Foreign Education equivalent *must submit official high school transcripts (Diploma not acceptable by BOP)
- Pass a Drug Screening and back ground check
- Students must wear closed toe shoes. No flip flops, sandals, or high heels will be allowed.
- Purchase scrub uniform for classes and wear school ID at all times
- Language Requirements: All students must be proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking) in order to complete externship working under pharmacy and hospital staff. National Certification is offered in English only. ESL WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE through VVC.
Why should I take Pharmacy Tech at VVC?

PHT 040 Pharmacy Orientation & Pharmacy Calculations
This course will introduce students to the practice of pharmacy, state pharmacy technician licensure requirements and program expectations. Students will learn to perform pharmaceutical calculations used in pharmacy practice, dosage calculations, special medical and business math calculations.

PHT 041 Pharmacology - Part I
Students will receive an overview of pharmaceutical dosage forms, terminology, abbreviations, and symbols. Drug brands and/or generic names, major drug classifications, route of administration and more! Interpretation of prescriptions will be practiced.

PHT 042 Pharmacy Law and Ethics
Students will be able to explain the roles, duties, responsibilities, and differences of a pharmacy team. State and Federal laws governing pharmacy practice and regulations will be covered along with prevention of medication errors.

PHT 043 Pharmacy Sterile Compounding
Students will focus on the fundamentals in aseptic technique, parenteral admixture procedures, and I.V. preparation. Dosage calculations are integrated in the applications of this course.

PHT 044 Pharmacy Non-Sterile Compounding
Students will focus on appropriately following extemporaneous compounding orders and packaging procedures. Students will be able to identify the most common equipment, tools and supplies used in non-sterile compounding. Dosage calculations are integrated in the applications of this course.

PHT 045 Pharmacology - Part II
Students will focus on Part II of medications' brand/generic name, dosage forms, drug classes, routes of administration, standard dosage schedules, indications, basic side effects and adverse effects. Also, common dietary supplements and over the counter (OTC) products available.

PHT 046 Pharmacy Operations
Students will be introduced to the duties of inventory control in a pharmacy practice and explore legal parameters of dispensing medications.

PHT 047 Prescription Processing
Students will focus on pharmacy computer applications which specialize in processing prescriptions, drug information retrieval, legal documentation, patient profiles and related topics. Interpretations of doctor’s orders along with the prescription filling process, refilling, and labeling procedures will be practiced. Computerized pharmacy systems will be utilized.

PHT 048 Career Success
Students will gain an understanding of workflow through "Mock Pharmacy" practice and develop personal qualities such as professionalism, integrity and organization. Students will practice problem solving and communication skills that ensure positive interactions. Other aspects of professionalism include appropriate behavior in the workplace and sensitivity to diverse patient populations.

PHT 049 Pharmacy Technician Externship
This course is designed to allow students hands-on experience in a pharmacy setting. This course meets the California Board of Pharmacy 120-hour externship requirement and the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP) 130-hour externship hour requirement. Once completed, students are eligible to apply for license registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy.

In this course, students will build and strengthen their knowledge of pharmacy concepts essential to sit for
the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).
