Service Area Outcomes

Victor Valley College practices ongoing assessment and evaluation of both its instructional and non-instructional areas. Service Areas, which are categorized as non-instructional, are tasked with developing relevant and meaningful Service Area Outcomes in order to effectively measure the services they offer. A Service Area Outcome (SAO) is defined as a statement which describes what a student, staff, faculty member or community member “will experience, receive, or know as a result of a given service.”[1]

Service Areas develop their Service Area Outcomes by operationalizing their mission statements. By focusing on the key goals of their units, Service Areas craft their SAO statements to be assessed on an annual basis. Once SAOs are assessed, Service Areas use assessment results in order to evaluate and plan as well as to respond to areas for improvement in services.
