Students enrolled in Sustainable Sciences courses at Victor Valley College will learn to plan and implement sustainable development practices; development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is also often described as development that considers multiple, sometimes competing, values grouped into three general categories: (a) environmental, (b) social, and (c) economic.

Extensive use is made of case studies and practical on-site experiences.

In addition, students will design, implement and analyze applied research projects on the environmental issues of the Mojave Desert (see "Mojave Sustainability Project"). Projects are student initiated or may be part of existing conservation projects with local mines and public agencies that include desert restoration, native plant propagation, soils rehabilitation and water management technologies like Geographic Information Systems in real-world situations.

Several scholarship and internship opportunities are available to students in this program.
