BENEFITS INFORMATION
Health insurance is available for eligible regular Faculty and Classified Bargaining Unit members as well as Management/Administrative/Confidential employees.

IRC Section 125 Flexible Reimbursement Accounts ( American Fidelity )for Medical and Dependent Care are also available. Please contact us for more information or refer to this section on this website (under construction).

Plan Year – July 1 – June 30

Open Enrollment – Open Enrollment begins typically in May for July 1 effective date. Information is sent to each eligible employee prior to Open Enrollment.

Effective dates of coverage – a) Coverage for newly eligible employees will begin on the first of the month following the first day of eligible service. b) Coverage ends at the end of the month in which your benefits-eligible employment ends and COBRA takes effect the next day if elected by employee.

PAYROLL INFORMATION

  • EFT - Electronic Deposit (EFT) is available for all employees.

 

  • EXTRA PAY - Any additional pay earned for overtime, extra assignments, overload, etc. for regular employees is always paid on the normal pay warrant. The pay period for this type of pay runs the 16th-15th. Watch for due-date reminders.

 

  • HOLIDAYS – Schedule published annually. Classified and Management have an annual floating holiday which does not roll into the next fiscal year.
  • PAYDAY - Classified bargaining unit members and Classified management employees are paid on the last working day of the month. Regular Academic bargaining unit members and Academic management/administrative employees are paid on the 1st of the month. Refer to the Contract Payroll Release Dates schedule.

    Associate faculty, limited-term employees, and student workers are paid on or about the 9th of the month. The pay period runs the 24th-23rd. Refer to the Short-Term, Sustitutes, Students, Associate Faculty schedule.

 

 

  • SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE - Only employees who are members of CalPERS contribute to Social Security. STRS-covered AND PARS-covered employees and all others do not contribute to Social Security. All employees except student workers contribute to Medicare. For more information, please access the retirement section of the Payroll & Benefits website (under construction) or the official websites.

     

 

  • SDI – As is generally typical of most public school districts in California, VVCCD employees do not contribute to the State of California State Disability Insurance program.

 

  • UNION DUES - Regular Faculty and Classified employees are subject to mandatory agency fees, CTA (California Higher Education) and CSEA, respectively. These are automatically deducted on a 10-month basis. Union representatives may be contacted for information on payroll deduction for local chapter dues or for any information on union issues. Associate faculty union dues are optional – please contact the AFT organization.

 

  • TAX WITHOLDING ( W-4W-5, & DE4 ) - You may change your withholding anytime; it will take effect on the next available payroll after receipt in the payroll office.

 

OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENT/INJURY/ILLNESS REPORTING

Job-related injury or illnesses. All injuries or illness should be reported to the Payroll & Benefits office within 24 hours whether or not medical care is desired.

RETIREMENT INFORMATION

All employees except student workers pay into a retirement system - CalPERS, CalSTRS, or PARS.

CalSTRS - California State Teachers Retirement

A Defined Benefit Plan in combination with a supplemental benefits plan, providing retirement and disability benefits. Requires employee contribution of 8% of earnings, paid through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis. Annual statements are issued by STRS in late fall.

CalPERS - California Public Employees Retirement System

A Defined Benefit Plan providing retirement and disability benefits. Requires employee contribution of 7% of salary, paid through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis. This system coordinates with Social Security. Annual statements are issued by PERS in late fall.

PARS - Public Agency Retirement System

A Defined Contribution Plan providing alternative retirement benefits for associate faculty and limited-term employees who are not members of CalSTRS or CalPERS. Requires employee contribution of 3.75% of salary, paid through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis.
