Greetings from Maintenance & Operations
The department consists of five divisions; (1) Maintenance, (2) Grounds, (3) Custodial, (4) Warehouse, and (5) Switchboard.
The Maintenance Division – Repairs and renovates over 500,000 square feet of buildings, including classrooms, offices, conference rooms, public areas, and restrooms. Additionally, this division maintains parking lots, sidewalks, water and sewer mains, and anything else that’s mechanical. Our auto mechanic maintains all of the college vehicles, golf carts, electric vehicles, and the grounds equipment. Our HVAC Technician who maintains our Central Plant and all additional heating and cooling systems. Our Locksmith is responsible for issuing keys and proximity cards, and ensuring that ALL lock systems – mechanical & electric, as well as ALL doors, are fully functional
The Grounds Division – Responsible for the care and maintenance of the 250 acre parcel of land where the college is located. Over 100 acres are planted with varying grass and/or vegetation that require regular care. In addition to mowing the grass and trimming trees and shrubs, the Grounds division also maintains the irrigation systems, stripes the athletic fields, preps the softball and baseball fields for practice and play, maintains 3 Little League fields, and ensures our campus is free of weeds.
The Custodial Division – Cleans over 500,000 square feet of offices, classrooms, and common areas each day. The multiple shifts work around the campus to ensure general cleanliness, and that restrooms are serviced and stocked. The Night Crew is assigned an area that is approximately 39,000 square feet. That’s the equivalent of cleaning 26 average sized homes in a 7 ½ hour period. Our Crews empty the trash, clean the restrooms, vacuum the carpets, mop tile floors, clean the walls, set up for large events, and a number of additional specialty tasks, as requested/assigned.
The Warehouse Division – Handles most of the shipping and receiving duties for the college. They are also responsible for picking up and delivering the mail, supplying paper to various offices, maintaining the fixed asset inventory, monitoring the records retention program, delivering packages to various departments and employees, assisting the Maintenance personnel in moving people and setting up offices, maintaining the used furniture inventory and delivering furniture as requested. Lastly, they also pick up parts and supplies off campus that are time critical for M&O operations.
The Switchboard Division – Responsible for answering all of the non-directed incoming calls to the campus. They also receive and sort the incoming intra-departmental and postal mail for the campus. They provide information to both walk in and phone based customers. They also provide additional clerical support to M&O as needed.
The administrative office for the department is located in building 93 behind the Vocational Education complex. The office is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The office staff is responsible for processing work orders, dispatching the correct trade for emergencies, issuing keys and proximity cards, issuing rental vehicles for staff and student transportation, and contacting vendors for contracted services. Requests for services, such as keys or vehicles, that are outside of the normal hours of operation can be made at least 24 hours in advance, and will be accommodated on a personnel availability basis.
