Trends in the Labor Market

Medical Assisting has a projected growth rate faster than the average of >14% for 2014-2024 and is rated on O*NET as a “Bright Outlook” career which is expected to increase its growth by 28% for 2014-2024, https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/31-9092.00. Projected job openings during this time are expected to be substantial as well.  

 

It offers a sustainable wage for our students, many of which progress to other and more advanced health care professions after attaining a degree in Medical Assisting. 

 

Over the next 20 years medical programs will be in the highest demand and Medical Assisting continues to excel in this area according to United States Department of Labor job projection data http://www.bls.gov/OOH/healthcare/medical-assistants.htm. 

 

In a Dec 1, 2016 a press release for the California Community Colleges Chancellors office states:  Students who earn health credentials, including two-year degrees or certificates, from career technical education programs at California community colleges increase their earnings by an average of 50 percent, according to a report released today by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC). Job opportunities should be excellent, particularly for those with formal training and certification. You should find opportunities for employment in a variety of private medical practices, offices/clinics, urgent care/express care, research facilities, insurance companies. and out-patient clinics.
