The Federal Work Study Program
Federal Work Study (FWS) is a work program for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, that allows them to earn money to help pay for education expenses. FWS is an excellent opportunity for students to gain on-the-job training. The program encourages community service and work that is related to course of study.
FWS is a federally funded program that provides part-time employment to eligible students. Students awarded federal work study receive an allocation of funds to be earned through jobs on or off campus. Student FWS awards depend on date of submitted application, the student's level of need, and funding level of the college.
Hours Per Week
FWS students may work 20 hours per week or less depending on the allocation.
Pay Rate
FWS wages will be at least the current Federal or California minimum wage, but it may be higher depending on the type of work and skills required.
Check Disbursement
FWS checks are disbursed on a monthly basis.
FWS Participants Must Be:
- A VVC student,
- Receiving federal student aid,
- Enrolled in at least 6 units during Spring/Fall semesters and
- Able to maintain a 2.0 or above GPA.
