THE VVC CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

The Chemistry Department consists of several very dedicated faculty members and professional support staff, whose goal is to provide a high-level learning environment, while retaining our students' interest and providing them a successful learning experience.

Our chemistry courses are designed to prepare you to transition to a four-year institution to finish a bachelor’s degree. We expose you to the fundamentals of chemistry and help you understand what is needed prior to attending upper division courses. Laboratory emphasis is on the development of experimental skills.

Why Chemistry?

Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it undergoes. It is an incredible field of study and is fundamental to our world. Chemistry plays a role in everyone's lives and touches almost every aspect of our existence in some way. It is essential for meeting our basic needs and chemical technologies enrich our quality of life. Chemistry majors can pursue careers in traditional chemistry fields such as biochemistry, organic, analytical, inorganic, and physical chemistry, as well as in medicine, engineering, environmental science, and forensic science.

Research Opportunity

Chemistry is best understood after participating in laboratory work, which is included with most chemistry classes. VVC currently participates in a program that allow students to participate in research in the field of chemistry, expanding their understanding of chemistry and how it affects our lives.
