Below are some suggestive tips for crafting question(s)

Use a “Wh-Question” word to start your question:

Who, what, when, where, why, which, whose, & how

Using these question starters help target specific information the interviewer would like to know

Create questions that:

  • ask the author to elaborate on themes or issues found in the book or weaves together events from society to events or themes found in the book.
  • are open-ended questions.  Questions require more than one-worded answers and rely on elaboration and explanation. The answers could be a few sentences or longer, elaborated responses.
  • are clearly & concisely written. Students have up to 600 characters to formulate more than one question for a one-time submission.

Avoid questions that:

  • ask the author to recall information on characters or events in the book.
  • are closed-ended questions. If you can answer a question with only a "yes" or "no" response or only provide one-word as a response, then you are answering a closed-ended type of question.

Once you have drafted your question(s), type your question(s) in the available text box, select submit when finished, and attend Cherie Dimaline’s lecture on May 19th in the PAC (bldg. 54) to see if your question is selected and asked on your behalf to the author!

Terms/Conditions: Since time is limited, all questions are appreciated and welcomed for submission but not all will be selected. Selected questions will be asked through proxy of the event’s hosts. Only 1 submission is allotted per individual, and students have up to 600 characters to draft their question(s). The deadline to submit is 8:00 pm May 13th.
