Thank you for thinking of THRIVE. A few simple guidelines help us keep every donation safe and useful for the students who rely on us:

  • Meat: accepted only if frozen before its printed expiration date.

  • Dry goods (canned foods, pasta, rice, cereal, and similar items): welcome well past the date on the package, as long as it's unopened and undamaged.

  • Produce: wrinkled, soft, or slightly bruised is perfectly fine as long as it's still good to cook or eat.

  • Dairy: accepted up to about 2 days past the printed date, unless it's already frozen.

  • Non-food items (toiletries, diapers, school supplies, and similar items) are always welcome.

Donate approved, new, unopened non-perishable items at Building 51A. Please review the Donation Guide before bringing items to campus.

Worried about liability? You're covered. Both federal and California law protect individuals, businesses, and organizations that donate food in good faith, even food that's simply past its printed date. The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act and California's own Good Samaritan Food Donation Act shield good-faith donors from liability. Your generosity is protected — thank you for considering us.

Please email Basic.Needs@vvc.edu to schedule a donation drop-off time before arriving. Our staff may be assisting students, receiving deliveries, or supporting other program operations and may not be available to accept donations without advance notice. Scheduling ahead helps ensure someone is available to receive and process your donation. Thank you for supporting VVC students!
