Program and Accreditation Information

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is the beginning level for response personnel. Prerequisites include: 18 years of age before the first day of class & must have a valid / current American Heart Association (AHA) - CPR for Healthcare Provider card.  Emergency Medical Technician is the minimum preparation required to work on an Ambulance, for a Fire Department and many other Public Safety positions. This course (EMS 60) is a rigorous 9.5 unit class that is also a prerequisite for entrance into the Fire Academy, as well as the Paramedic Program (see Paramedic webpage for further details and specifics). A course completion certificate is awarded at the successful conclusion of the class and also includes the National Registry of EMT skills testing.  Successful students are eligible to take their NREMT written exam after course completion. Also offered is the EMT-Refresher course. This course (EMS 61) is a 1 unit class designed to fulfill the 24 hours of Continuing Education required for recertification of current EMT's - includes all CA State Skills testing.

The Emergency Medical Technician & Refresher program is approved / accredited by the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Services Agency (ICEMA).
