Students enrolled in Horticulture courses at VVC are provided an introduction to plant science with topics in plant structure and function and the environmental factors involved in plant growth and development. Students learn: plant physiology, plant reproduction and propagation; effects of soil, water, and climate; use of plants to meet human needs; sustainable horticultural practices; integrated pest management; the role of new technologies in contemporary plant science. Application to Mojave Desert issues and to careers in Horticulture, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management and Restoration Ecology are emphasized.
