Application Assistance
BEFORE APPLYING
- To complete the application you will need to a VVC Student ID number. If you do not have one, apply to VVC.
- IF you have taken courses at another school, forward your OFFICIAL transcripts at least two weeks PRIOR to the application period. This will give time for your transcripts to be processed.
- You will need your UNOFFICIAL transcripts for all schools you will be using coursework from.
- The date for the TEAS exam is on both the application and on our Application Dates / Meeting page.
- The date for the Health and Safety orientation is on both the application and on our Application Dates / Meeting page.
You will want to attend the Health and Safety orientation. This orientation covers the requirements to attend clinicals. You will need to meet these requirements to participate in our Nursing Program. - SPECIAL ITEM: For applicants who have a hard time scheduling appointments with their primary care provider, you may want to schedule an appointment for your physical before you apply. You will want to schedule your appointment to be about 60 days AFTER our Health and Safety orientation. If you are not accepted, please cancel this appointment or have it moved to be 60 days AFTER our next Health and Safety orientation if you are planning on applying again.
FOR THE APPLICATION WORKSHEET, PLEASE
- Your first step in completing the application is to choose your placement option. MOST applicants will choose "Generic".
After selecting your placement option the rest of the application will open. - IF YOU HAVE TAKEN COURSES YOU ARE USING TO MEET PREREQUISITES AT ANOTHER SCHOOL, YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE ON FILE WHEN YOU APPLY. IF THEY ARE NOT, WE CANNOT PROCESS YOUR APPLICATION.
- Please ONLY enter other names used if you have actually used them. Most often this will be a name from before a name change.
- Verify you are entering a required course on the appropriate line. The requirement is listed on the left. Make sure you enter the number of unit in the first column only.
- Reminder that we cannot accept a C-. We only accept C or better for grades.
- For each course, make sure you include the course number that matches to your unofficial transcripts.
- As a sanity check, it is recommended you highlight a copy of your unofficial transcripts as you enter each course in the worksheet.
- No class can be used for more than one requirement.
- No class can be "in progress". You must have a grade on your official transcripts to use the course.
- Verify that you enter the proper school (abbreviations are acceptable) for each course, along with the semester and year you completed your course.
- Make sure your Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology were taken with 5 years of when you apply.
- Review documents you are uploading for legibility. If you can't read them, we can't.
- If you are licensed or certified in healthcare, please upload your current, unexpired license or certification.
- No, there are no places to upload either letters of recommendation or work/volunteer experience.
AFTER APPLYING
- No, we will not know who is selected to move forward and take the TEAS until about two weeks AFTER THE END of the application period.
- Yes, you can still see your application. Please log in to your MyVVC, Open NextGen DynamicForms and click on the "My Forms" drop down to the right of the search bar. Select "Form History" and you should see your forms refresh to your completed forms. You can then find your application there.
- IF YOU HAVE TAKEN THE TEAS and wish to use your results, please forward them. To do so, you will need to go to the ATItesting.com website.
General Frequently Asked Questions.
- NO, the nursing program does not have a waiting list.
- NO, you do not need to be a CNA to apply. Having a current CNA certificate helps, but is not required.
- YES, All prerequisites must be completed before applying.
- YES, if you have coursework at another college or university you will need to have your OFFICIAL transcripts forwarded to VVC for credit.
- We only accept course work from colleges and universities recognized by the Council of Higher Education.
- Minimum GPA is 2.5 or better for coursework used to apply.
- We have a 5 year recency for Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology.
- You can have at most 2 Withdrawal or Incompletes for Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, or Microbiology.
- YES, we accept hybrid courses.
- YES, we accept AP credit. A "5" is an "A", "4" is a "B", and "3" is a "C".
- YES, we accept coursework from other colleges. You can check with counseling to verify which classes transfer.
- NO, we do not accept upper division coursework.
- YES, you can repeat a course for a better grade.
- NO, you do not need a degree before applying. You get additional points for a degree but this is not a requirement.
- Applications are accepted twice a year, once in spring (February) and once in fall (August).
- The top 65 by points are invited to move forward for selection to take classes the NEXT semester.
- WE DO NOT KNOW THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF POINTS UNTIL AFTER ALL APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN SCORED.
- The top 65 will be invited to take the TEAS at VVC. If you are selected and have already taken the TEAS, you can forward your results
- Passing TEAS score is 70 or better.
- We use the current TEAS for our applications.
- For a passing score, we look at your first two attempts in a rolling 5 year window.
- The best source for study material for the TEAS is www.ATItesting.com.
- The nursing program accepts about 40 students each application period.
- Students are placed in the next semester based on TEAS score + points.
- ONLY the students in the top 65 by points will be placed in the next semester.
- If you are not in the top 65 by points we encourage you to apply again.
- We do not charge for applications.
- There is not a limit on the number of times you can apply to the program.
- The Nursing Program is four (4) semesters long. This is a two (2) year program.
- The Nursing Program is considered full time. Lectures are during the day from Monday to Friday. Expect to be in lecture, labs, or Clinicals at least 3 days a week and up to 5 days.
- The total cost for our Nursing Program is just under $10,000. Please see our Estimated Program Costs page for details.
