What Happens Next?

(You may see this process referred to as "BIT," short for Behavior Intervention Team. VVC uses "CARE Team" and "BIT" interchangeably.)

1. The referral is submitted through the online referral form.
2. The referral is automatically sent by VVC email to all BIT/CARE Team members.
3. Core team members screen the referral to see if immediate action is needed. If so, immediate action is taken right away. If not, the referral is assessed at the next team meeting.
4. At the next meeting, the team assesses the referral using the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NABITA) Threat Assessment Tool. This looks at the student's mental and behavioral health, level of hostility or risk of violence, and overall risk level, to determine how serious the situation is. From this assessment, the team builds an action plan.
5. Following the action plan, the team reaches out and provides support services to the student, and to the person who submitted the referral, as needed.
