- More to come...
Option 2: @ONE Online Teaching and Design Badge
This is a 12-week training opportunity with a time commitment of approximately 10 hours/week. This training is usually offered each fall and spring and they usually announce it via email.
Successfully complete the 12-week training and email your digital badge, to jamey.cooper@vvc.edu.
Option 3: Equivalency/Minimum qualifications based on the OEI Design Rubric
If you have received training at another school that you feel would be equivalent to our training, email jamey.cooper@vvc.edu the documents requested below.
Requested Documents:
- Please upload any training certificates you have received that show evidence of your knowledge.
- Include required training outline/syllabus/agendas that show hours of training and topics covered.
- Certificates/Digital badges that show you completed the training.
- Provide a Canvas course you have taught in the last 3 years that shows your ability to design according to the CVC-OEI Design Rubric. Below are 2 different ways you can provide this:
- Upload a Canvas export (.imscc). Read these instructions if you don't know how to export a Canvas course.
- Upload a VVC Canvas sandbox url. If your course export is too large to upload directly to this form, you can create a sandbox in your VVC Canvas and import the file from your computer. If you go this route, you just need to provide the url to your sandbox (we do not need to be added as teachers) so that we can look at it.
Want to go even farther? Become a certified Peer Online Course Reviewer!
As part of the Community College system, we are working to become a "virtual" campus with courses that students across California can participate in. As part of this process, we are building a local POCR team who will help support faculty by becoming quality reviewers. Important to note that this process is NOT an evaluation of any instructors teaching, nor is it related to the specific topic an instructor teaches. It is focused on the design of the course only. Any POCR review of a course will also provide ongoing mentor support to those instructors who wish to work towards a quality review badge.
This review process is currently in the works and not active yet. However, if this is something you are interested in participating in either as a reviewer or a reviewee, please let us know. We are building our lists and would love to have you participate.

FAQs
- Do I need to be DE certified to teach face-to-face classes? No, this is only if you want to teach an online course.
- Can I apply for multiple training options at the same time? Sure! You are welcome to put yourself on our internal training list while our DE department evaluates your equivalency. However, we do NOT recommend taking our internal training at the same time as the Online Teaching and Design. They are each a LOT of work and we don't want you to burn out.
- What happens if I'm denied equivalency? You will need to move to options 1 or 2. If you choose our internal training, you will be automatically given a spot in the cohort that works best for you.
- How long does it take to process my equivalency? This is extremely individual. We may request further documentation or ask questions that can slow the process down. However, our goal is to get the equivalency done within 2 weeks.
