Getting Online Instruction Certified at VVC

Option 1: Internal VVC Training

To ensure the highest level of support for our students' success, Victor Valley College requires faculty to be certified to teach in Asynchronous online, Hybrid, Remote (synchronous online), and HyFlex modalities.

Online Instructor (DE) Certification 

After obtaining DE certification, faculty may apply for approval to teach in the Remote modality, which is also referred to as synchronous online instruction. For more details on the application process, please visit:

Remote Training 

You also have the opportunity to teach in the HyFlex modality, which allows students to participate either in person or online during the same class meeting. Teaching HyFlex requires planning for two audiences at once, clear communication about participation options, and intentional course design that supports access and engagement regardless of how a student attends on a given day.

External Training

CVC Online Network of Educators (@)ONE

The CCC @ONE offers a wide range of learning opportunities including webinars, self-paced courses, and full courses with badged completion. All courses are offered free to CCC instructors but often fill up fast so check back frequently.

Online Teaching & Design

The CVC-Online Network of educators 12-week Online Teaching & Design course is accepted by VVC as equivalent to our Online Instructor Certification. 

Online Network of Educators - Learners

You can also complete Certificate in Online Teaching & Design badge as a 4-course pathway. Each course is 4 weeks and is approximately 10 hours/week (40 total hours):

  1. Introduction to Course Design: 40 hours

  2. 10-10-10: Communication That Matters: 40 hours

  3. Assessment in Digital Learning: 40 hours

  4. Creating Accessible Course Content: 40 hours

Peer Online Course Review (POCR)

Are you interested in joining our Peer Online Course Reviewer group to support high-quality online instruction? This is a 12-week training opportunity with a time commitment of approximately 10 hours/week. This training is usually offered each fall and spring and they usually announce it via email.

Successfully complete the 12-week training and email your digital badge, to distance.education@vvc.edu.
