Remote Training

Welcome to the Remote Training Information Page!

Starting in Spring 2025, Victor Valley College is excited to introduce a new course modality called Remote (also known as synchronous online) designed to enhance flexibility and accessibility for students and faculty. Below, you'll find everything you need to know about Remote training, including eligibility, training details, and how to sign up.

What Is the Remote Modality?

The Remote modality combines online synchronous instruction with asynchronous assignments and interactions outside of the synchronous classroom. Synchronous sessions occur during the days and times posted in the class schedule, allowing for live engagement with students.

This innovative modality provides instructors with a structured yet flexible way to deliver engaging, high-quality online education.

Who Needs Remote Training?

To teach in the Remote modality, faculty must meet the following requirements:

  1. DE Certification:

    • Faculty must already be DE-certified to teach online or hybrid courses at Victor Valley College. DE certification qualifies instructors to teach in asynchronous online and hybrid modalities.

    • Faculty who are not DE-certified must complete DE certification first before registering for Remote training.

  2. Remote Training Requirement:

    • Faculty Without Remote Experience: Faculty who have not previously taught remote courses must complete a 4-hour Remote training program offered here at VVC. This ensures familiarity with the requirements and best practices of the Remote modality.

    • Faculty With Remote Experience at VVC: Faculty who taught face-to-face or hybrid courses converted to remote instruction during COVID are exempt from this training requirement, as they have already demonstrated the necessary experience.

    • Faculty With Remote Experience at Another Institution: Faculty who have taught remote, synchronous online modalities or who taught face-to-face, or hybrid courses at another institution during COVID may request equivalency. To do so, they must submit evidence, such as a teaching contract, to the DE department.

Remote Training Overview

The Remote training consists of four hours of professional development, split into:

  • Two Hours Synchronous: Live training sessions conducted online to simulate the Remote teaching experience.

  • Two Hours Asynchronous: Independent learning activities completed on Canvas to reinforce best practices.

The training aligns with Distance Education best practices and accreditation standards, ensuring you are prepared to succeed in the Remote modality. Topics include:
