Teaching Online at VVC
Interested in teaching online? You're in the right place! VVC has four available modalities of online instruction that offer varying degrees of flexibility.
Online (Asynchronous)
These courses are fully online, without set meeting times (asynchronous). Coursework is completed in Canvas, and while there are regular deadlines, students do the work on their own schedule. Distance Education Certification is sufficient training to teach an online course.
Hybrid
Hybrid courses combine online learning with face-to-face components. Coursework is completed in Canvas, with scheduled in-person class time, exams, labs, etc. Distance Education Certification is sufficient training to teach a hybrid course.
Remote (Synchronous Online)
Remote courses, or synchronous online instruction, include live online sessions at scheduled times in which students log in to attend and participate via a video platform. Asynchronous assignments and interactions are completed online. After obtaining DE certification, faculty may apply for Remote Training, which will qualify them to teach in this modality.
HyFlex
HyFlex, or Hybrid-Flexible, provides two formats for every class meeting, allowing students to choose to attend in person or live online. The students are all participating in the same session at the same time, just from different places. Teaching HyFlex requires planning for two audiences at once, clear communication about participation options, and intentional course design that supports access and engagement regardless of how a student attends on a given day. After completing DE Certification, faculty may seek additional training to conduct HyFlex Training.
Peer Online Course Review (POCR)
Are you interested in joining our Peer Online Course Reviewer group to support high-quality online instruction? This is a 12-week training opportunity with a time commitment of approximately 10 hours/week. This training is usually offered each fall and spring and they usually announce it via email.
Successfully complete the 12-week training and email your digital badge, to Jennifer.Tennyson@vvc.edu.
